A Social Lie

The history of Christmas
Owns no space in me
It’s origination date
Of it, I am free

An inheritance passed down
Of which the world’s complicit
Money flows, rain or shine
Out shopping, you can see it

The fact it lives in winter time
With rain and cold and snow
Makes me contemplate
Without it, would the money flow?

Even government gets involved
As Norad tracks his moves
Songs create a boogey man
Meant bad behavior to remove

“Better watch out,
Better not cry
Santa, he be comin’
Remember, he’s got spies

He sees you when you’re sleepin’
Sees when you’re awake
Watches every little move
Be careful ‘bout mistakes

An innocent lie is how it’s seen
Passed by every generation
Depicts the birth of Jesus
And not affected by inflation!

Linda Brady

Grandma Linda is a squigily peg in a square hole. Her poetry is aimed at moving the world to love, unity and perfect margaritas. And after years of perfecting the art, she has the skill to paint a better world and make it so.

When she is not serving customers, gazing at rocks, or visiting her grandchildren Linda is writing poetry. And even during all the above activities she has been known to write still.
