American Nightmare

by | Mar 21, 2021 | Political

An audience of hims & hers
In numbers, number many
Of those wanting new health care laws
In number, there ain’t any!

Faceless names on tax roles
And nameless ones in clusters
Trusting, innocent bystanders
Whose confidence you no longer muster

Generations of our future
Affected evermore
Contemplation of this nightmare
Views chaos that’s in store

A dream, our country spun
In motion, for the whole
Provision for just one percent
For 99, an empty bowl

The Senate and the House
With lawyers, weighted down
Probably, a bad idea
With laws about to drown

And what of religious freedom?
Christian Science, specifically?
Penalizing ethics
In violation of the free

The ‘American Dream’s a farce
In a nation built to fail
A pit-bull on a leach
For shakers set to sail

Young men sacrificed
With new terrains at view
The only ones to benefit
Among us, just a few

Nameless faces question
Where did we go wrong?
Trusting in a process
Fooling us all along.

Linda Brady

Grandma Linda is a squigily peg in a square hole. Her poetry is aimed at moving the world to love, unity and perfect margaritas. And after years of perfecting the art, she has the skill to paint a better world and make it so.

When she is not serving customers, gazing at rocks, or visiting her grandchildren Linda is writing poetry. And even during all the above activities she has been known to write still.
