A coffee break, a moment free
From a job I love
But in a state of agitation seems
My arrogance tells me I’m above
A client called round nine
A perm scheduled today at two
“Can I come June 8th the same”
No reason coming through (*1)
It hit me wrong, admittedly
As a pattern is I’m seeing
This the second cancellation
Without a reason for it being (*2)
No acknowledgement was lent
‘Bout today for her was off
Me out 2 scheduled hours
Lending an economic loss
Part of me doesn’t care
But the other part was pissed
Seems I’m discountable
The irrelevance not missed
But adding to the drama
A lie I propagated
In terms of Saturday the eighth
Provided a story I created
Oh, I’m off that day
The shop will not be open
Which means a lie to cover that
‘The plans I had got broken’ (*3)

(*1) She didn’t even bother to day, well, something came up, I can’t make
it today. She acted like it was a new idea that she wanted to get a
permanent. I don’t need my rear-end kissed; but I did schedule time out of
my day for her work, which was not taken into account by her call.
(*2) This was the second or third time she had cancelled this particular
appointment. But this time was different, just a few hours ahead of time.
The other times were days beyond the day it was to be done.
(*3) Initially when I took the call I thought, oh, I’ll be too busy to do
her ( which would be a lie), but then when I went to my appointment book, I
didn’t even have the days pencilled in, much less appointments written
down. I have a hand-full of regulars. So, because lying is not a normal
thing to do, I kicked back into ‘normal’ and said, “Give me a minute, I
have to write the dates in, I don’t have my book done ahead.” At any rate,
then I remembered, great, now she knows there’s nothing on the page where
the eighth resides. Then I had to shift my lie … “Oh, I forgot, I’m
taking off that day.” I had to laugh at myself for being such a bad liar.
I’m sure I’ll probably call her up and try to reschedule her for the eighth
and confess my attitude and lie at some point.
