Soliciting a Referendum

My heart cries out in anguish
in perception of the pain
That we’ve done to other nations
in expectation of a gain

Looking at our children *(1}
we judge them to be spoiled
Not seeing them as mirrors
cause in the knowledge be recoiled

We’re seeing now our government
For what it truly is
As our rights they dismantle A
And our value they dismiss

‘Just consumers’ on a treadmill i
Ignoring history’s lessons
Bitch, moan and belly-ache
as Free Trade means recession

Corporations get the major blame
as they craft each crippling law *(2}
Yet the FORCE of SPIRIT dictates
if we’re gonna take a fall

The men behind the curtain, known to us
And yet of this little care
After all, they’re just mortals also
next to SPIRIT won’t compare

It was the need to know our source
that led us to this land
Yet, those behind the curtain
Had a different plan

At first we showed resistance
As Britain sought to have it’s way
We thought we’d gained our freedom
But was the money brought decay

The treasury, ‘a ticket in’
A million bucks, it’s said
We thought were free of tyranny
But it went underground instead

Perhaps events we’re seeing now
Ae just creating common ground
Allowing us to see the truth
That without it, wouldn’t found

We’re stuck inside of cubicles
That others have prepared
Seeing value as prepared for us
By Souls lost, disconnected … scared

Perhaps instead of isolation
“them and us” as is they see
Need to extend a loving heart
To rebuild the ‘Family Tree’

We ALL walk a common path
None will leave this world alive
So, embrace the ‘one-percenters’ then
It’s the one thing we haven’t tried.

Linda Brady

Grandma Linda is a squigily peg in a square hole. Her poetry is aimed at moving the world to love, unity and perfect margaritas. And after years of perfecting the art, she has the skill to paint a better world and make it so.

When she is not serving customers, gazing at rocks, or visiting her grandchildren Linda is writing poetry. And even during all the above activities she has been known to write still.
