The Beast

The economic system
Unfortunately is the beast
Each of us must play a part
Securing each precious piece

Our intentions are not unholy
We all seek to stay alive
And the paradigm we’re born into
Is just our reference guide

Yet, unwholly is, we might be
As we cognize each our need
If it causes a disruption
For another to be free

Our worth, we’ve drawn conclusions
Depends on what’s produced
Labor then, our commodity
To which we’ve been reduced

We’re told its school and skills we need
Putting our shoulder to the wheel
Assessing our value daily
Is how it is we deal

But education in this paradigm
Is no more than a sale
Someone dreaming the ‘American Dream’
Who’ll graduate and fail

But the system will be better off
As money passes hands
A loan with payments monthly
And a future pay-off plan

The whole thing’s a pyramid scheme
As the Stock Market long ago
People bought stock on the margin
Allowing the wealth, of a few, to grow

In two thousand thirteen we’ll see it
Along with other revelations
We’ll look back on this era
With anguish and indignation

Linda Brady

Grandma Linda is a squigily peg in a square hole. Her poetry is aimed at moving the world to love, unity and perfect margaritas. And after years of perfecting the art, she has the skill to paint a better world and make it so.

When she is not serving customers, gazing at rocks, or visiting her grandchildren Linda is writing poetry. And even during all the above activities she has been known to write still.
