At some point in March, 2004, I was on my way to the shop to go to work.
The radio was on, doing channel surfing, and came across a contest. The
nature of the contest was not clear, just heard “call now to play.” It was
not my custom to be so spontaneous; but I dialed and was shocked to get
in. As it turned out the contest was a week long event between two calling
contestants. It was the “Big Jim and Karl Show.” They asked questions
about classic rock. I failed miserably, every morning was torture. At the
end of the week, after the contest ended, we talked briefly off air. I
apologized for embarrassing myself and told them trivia was not my forte
that I was basically an arm-chair philosopher and that my attention
gravitated toward issues of reality. Big Jim asked me to say something
philosophical. Without hesitation I said, “Thought is energy with the
power to create.” He laughed and said, “hey, why don’t you call us at 7:20
AM, give us about a minute of philosophy and we’ll share it with our
listeners.”
Generally speaking he and Karl used my words to generate
comedic dialogue. The event was fun for me, allowing me to dig down deep
to find some new way to present my perspective. They called me West Coast
Linda. This being the case because I was raised in California.
